Larian Studios Unveil a New Divinity, Calling it Their Most Ambitious RPG to Date

The buzz surrounding the recent awards show has been intense, notably after presenter Geoff Keighley shared a mysterious image of a desert monolith. The secret has now been solved. The acclaimed developer is creating a brand-new Divinity game.

Announced as Divinity, the game was debuted with a audacious trailer packed with memorable imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the literal descent into chaos.

A Different Direction

Anyone hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. Larian clarified that a follow-up to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not currently in development.

However, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a next chapter of the main series. This choice of words implies that the team might be building a more action-oriented experience as opposed to another tactical title. For now, we can only guess, as only a teaser video is available.

What Makes Divinity Special

The Divinity series is universally respected and arguably it pioneered the contemporary revival of deep computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for detailed worlds, choice-driven narratives, and deep class systems—elements that subsequently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its world is traditional swords and sorcery, what truly sets Divinity apart is the immense freedom bestowed upon the player.

In contrast to modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is full of niche playthroughs you can achieve with a particular class or origin with a personal story.

The series is also famously flexible, allowing players to find creative solutions in narrative and gameplay. Virtually all objectives can be solved in diverse methods, frequently in surprising fashion.

  • You might solve a puzzle because you heeded something a non-human character said.
  • Or, you could defeat a foe by teleporting a glob of lava in a clever way.

A New Chapter Begins

It is these creative systems that lead fans and critics to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games of all time. Now, the RPG community can get ready for more where that came from in this groundbreaking franchise.
