Around 50 vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German town of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Automobiles, building surfaces and postal boxes were defaced, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they stated in a release.
Officers say they were contacted late on Wednesday, when a man discovered that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored liquid.
The substance had been placed in the pattern of a swastika, they stated.
Police then located numerous other smeared cars and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under laws outlawing the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials state early analysis indicate the liquid was likely blood from a person.
"There is still no clue as to where it came from; authorities are currently not aware of any physical harm in relation with the event," they added.
Local authorities said they were working "to unravel the mystery" and have asked to the public for tips.
A high-ranking political figure commented the attack made him speechless and had to be resolved promptly.
"This event hits the center of Hanau and revives the pain of the right-wing attack in 2020," he posted on online, mentioning the killing of nine individuals by a assailant targeting individuals of immigrant origin in 2020.
